Since I basically retired my Random Friday update posts, I figured I’d give this one a new name – Life Lately. A few of my blog friends write posts like this and they are fun to read – although some of the things I have to share in this one aren’t so fun! I just feel the need to give a little update here today.
We had the end of the year event for Simon’s youth group. He got a certificate for being on the board. This coming year, he’ll be on the regional board instead of the chapter board.

A friend of ours had been diagnosed with cancer towards the end of last year. We recently found out that his treatment wasn’t working, and shortly thereafter he passed away. He was our age, had a wife and two daughters, I’m friends with two of his sisters, and his mother is also part of our community, so it was a huge loss. We all went to his funeral – this was the second funeral Simon has attended and the first local one Zachary has attended – he left for Israel on the day of the previous one and returned the night before this one.
Zachary’s flight from Israel was delayed by 2 hours, which left him very little time to make it to his domestic flight home, but he did it. We had some anxiety over whether we would have to get him a new flight, which for a last minute ticket would be $600!
Since we’re car shopping, we attended the car show last weekend. I was reminded of when the boys were little – they went from car to car, sitting in driver’s seats, checking out engines, etc.
Then:
Now:

We also test drove a Polaris and an electric Honda – Zachary got to test that one, which was exciting for him!
This week Simon had his well visit appointment. We were excited to see if he was 6 ft. tall, but he was 5’11.25. Close! They did a finger prick blood test on him and he passed out! He must take after me. I passed out twice as a young kid – once was in a doctor’s office – and once as an adult during a blood draw (plus after I broke my ankle). So I could empathize with how sick he felt afterwards.
That same day, I thought he had a dermatologist appointment, but it turns out it’s next week. So we got ice cream instead.
My friend and her family are away and she asked me to go check on her house. I didn’t expect anything to be wrong, but their kitchen had flooded! We think it was coming from the dishwasher. The weird thing is that they turned off their water. Dave says it must not have been all the way off. And now he has proven why turning off the water when we travel is worthwhile. He says it would have been much worse if the water was on.
The boys were driving me crazy yesterday. Simon was helping someone move and didn’t listen (or comprehend) when I said he should come home. (It was fine, I was just annoyed). And Zachary was arguing about everything and wouldn’t accept that Dave doesn’t want him to drive any of our cars 2 hours either to go camping or to take a job next week. Also, they always wait to the last minute to make decisions – do they want to go away tonight? Are they going camping or not? I find it frustrating!
Go Knicks!

I guess that’s all for life lately…have a great weekend!
