Today I’m linking up with Marsha for the 10 on the 10th link up. If there ever was a perfect topic for me, it’s this one – my 10 favorite dogs! As you probably know, I love dogs. I’ve had two dogs that were my own, I fostered a few dogs, and now I dog sit. Not every dog is perfect and just about all the dogs I watch have some issue that makes them difficult in some way. The one I’m watching now is one of the more difficult ones I’ve watched! But here are some of the dogs I’ve loved!
1. Julie
Julie was my dog growing up. My parents had her first, two years before I was born. She was a miniature schnauzer and I considered her my best friend. I walked her most mornings and I used to hate when the high school bus would pass and all those big kids leered at us. We would also let her out in our backyard, which wasn’t fenced. Most of the time she didn’t leave. Sometimes she chased squirrels. She had cancer as she got older and there was a tumor pressing on her leg, which made it hard for her to walk. Eventually we had to say goodbye. I was around 11, and it was very sad.
This is me and Julie when we were young:
2. Rudy
After Dave and I moved into our first house, I began actively campaigning for us to get a dog. In 2003, we got Rudy. He was a Scottish Terrier, which was the kind of dog I wanted to own since I was young. We got him from his breeder when he was 5 months old. We had Rudy first, but when we started having kids it was a bit harder to take care of Rudy. Taking him out for walks was harder. He moved with us to Kansas and we have a fenced in yard here. I used to let him out and forget to let him back in. I wasn’t a great dog mom to him. He died young and I am not sure what happened to him. He had just been to the vet before he died too.
This was the last photo we took of him – Zachary took it a few weeks before he died in 2014.
3. Meg
Meg was the second dog we fostered and she was a good girl. She loved to be petted so much that when you stopped, she would pet herself! I’m writing this in the past tense, only because we haven’t seen her since she was adopted! Her new owners changed her name to Gabby. She was one of our best fosters!
4. Sheldon
Another great foster we had was Sheldon. We kept him for few weeks while his adoptive family was getting ready for him. He had been abandoned in a car with another dog and needed to quarantine in case he had parvo. He didn’t! We loved him, but he was already claimed!
5. Sophie, AKA Boba
We fostered Sophie after Sheldon, and she was adopted by a nice family who we kept in touch with and they renamed her Boba. Now, we dog sit her a few times a year. She is a very good girl, but she is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks. So, having her here for July 4 this year was a little hard. She takes medicine for her anxiety, but she refused to go outside, even hours before the fireworks started – how did she know?? She ended up peeing in the kitchen. But that’s ok, we still love her. This photo was two years ago – she is a bit more skinny now!
6. Ozzie and 7. Duncan
The first dog I started regularly dog sitting was Ozzie, when he was a puppy. Now he’s three! He comes with his brother Duncan. I love them both, but Ozzie is the cuter one! He is a cavapoo and super adorable. He has the cutest bark! I love Duncan too. He used to get into mischief, but now he’s old and has a harder time going potty outside, rather than inside!
8. Bella
Watching dogs through Rover is a risk, but Bella was one of the best ones we watched, and so cute! She is a miniature schnauzer, like Julie!
9. Ellie
One of our recent dog visitors was the adorable Ellie. Gabbie keeps saying she wants Ellie to come back! She also has a brother who was cute as well, but Ellie was an immediate favorite!
10. All the others
I can’t think of a 10th dog! So shout out to all the others that I’ve walked at the shelter or through Rover, have dog sat more than once, or belong to friends!
