On our second day in Maine, we spent time in Portland. We decided to take a trip on the mail boat that runs in Casco Bay carrying residents, mail, and more to the islands surrounding Portland. It also serves as a bit of a tour, as there is narration explaining the area as it goes. It wasn’t a very nice day outside, but it was a fun experience!
Look, it’s Portland Head Light!
It was interesting to see the houses on the islands and the people that were returning there either for the summer or after getting groceries from the main land.
This is an egret’s nest.
A cute goose family.
More island houses.
There were lots of dogs in Maine!
The boat looked like this:
We watched them loading and unloading as well.
Gabbie and me on the boat:
After our boat trip, we walked around a little bit.
And then we drove to Portland Head Light. I am obsessed with lighthouses and this was a cool one to visit!
From here, we drove to Kennebunkport, which is a cute Maine town that is well known for being the home of George Bush senior.
We figured out where we could go to see his house – well, Zachary did!
Then, we drove to York Beach, which was where Dave and I stayed when we went to Maine in 2004. We recognized it a little bit! There is a sandy beach there as well.
Due to the weather, we changed our plans for the following day, but our next stop was in NH!
