It’s the end of October so it’s time for another month in review. This has been a month of holidays and it went by pretty quickly! Here’s what we’ve been up to.
Daily Life
When we weren’t at home celebrating holidays, the kids had school. Gabbie has to take off days of school for the holidays and she took of an extra day and a half to go to Toronto and visit her friends from her trip. She had a nice time. She has been missing a lot of dance at her studio due to school dance activities plus her trip but she should be back on schedule now.
Holidays
Well we made it through the busiest season of the year! Sukkot was nice this year. No rain and not too hot or cold. The boys had a great time sleeping over in their friends’ sukkah. Zachary went twice and Simon went once (the first time was for a youth group event so only high schoolers!). Zachary ended up with a cold which of course Dave says he got from sleeping outside. Oh well. Our dog friend Winnie also came to stay with us over the weekend of Sukkot.
School
I found out that our friend (who is also Winnie’s mom) does tutoring so I sent Simon to her for help before his math test and he got a 97. That’s a stark contrast with his first test, on which he got a 73. So I’m thinking more tutoring is in order! His English grade is down again due to a missing assignment. There is some computer issue where the teacher says she left notes on his assignment and he says he doesn’t see them. So that needs to be fixed before grades are submitted for the quarter. He has As in the rest of his classes besides those two! And Zachary has Bs in Hebrew, Jewish History, and math, with As in the rest.
Gabbie has submitted 3 college applications and should be done with the 4th soon. These are the early action ones; then she has 3 more options that don’t do early action. She took the ACTs on Sunday and hopefully it went ok!
Activities
Field season has wrapped up for Gabbie. I shared pictures from the field show and a football game here. Both she and Zachary are going to a youth group weekend next weekend.
As for me, I’ve been walking dogs at the shelter and I helped at a cat and small mammal adoption event where I met some cute cats (I’m still allergic though)!
Health / Fitness
I mentioned that Zachary has had a cold this month. Simon is still coughing as well, but not like when he was sick. I think it’s allergies for sure. I’ve been running a bit, but not enough. My weight is steadily increasing, which is highly frustrating!
TV
I’m caught up on 9-1-1 and New Amsterdam. I started catching up on Chicago Fire and I haven’t started Chicago Med. Those are the main shows I watch right now! Funny that they are all medical / emergency related.
Books
It’s been another strange reading month! I’ve had a lot of 4 star reads (good but not the best) and only two 5 star reads so far this month! So this Friday’s favorites post will be a little smaller than normal. I shared the first half of my October reading here and you can always see book reviews and more on my Instagram!

Coming Up
I feel like I haven’t been posting much worth reading lately. Maybe one day I’ll get back into the swing of blogging! November will bring my birthday and our Thanksgiving visit to see family in NJ, so stay tuned for that!
How was your October?
