After leaving MA, we stayed the night in Providence, RI. From there, we headed over to Newport. Dave and I stayed in Newport when I was pregnant with Gabbie! We had a scheduled tour at the Newport synagogue, which is the oldest synagogue in the United States, having been established in 1763. First, we walked by the wharf a bit.
I had to take a picture of this dog thinking he was driving a car.
And these very cool shell flowers.
Next it was time for the synagogue tour, which was actually a talk about the history there. It was pretty interesting.
When that was over, we met up with Joanne for lunch. I was so honored that she offered to drive to meet us in Newport!
And after we ate, she came with us to the Cliff Walk as well. We parked by the Breakers and walked a bit one way and then back.
After we took Joanne back to her car, we headed south to Westerly. If you happen to be a Taylor Swift fan like Gabbie, you might know why we went there! Taylor Swift has a house there, which you can see quite clearly from the beach next to it, and from the lighthouse.
This is her house, viewed from the lighthouse.
We ended up talking to the lighthouse keeper and he claimed to have met Taylor, as well as Travis and Patrick Mahomes. He also said he was the previous fire chief and had been in Taylor’s house, mentioning that her bedroom was small and that was why she was doing construction there currently! It was a fun conversation, although somewhat hard to believe!
We got ice cream and Gabbie got a cute sweatshirt that says Holiday House (the name of Taylor’s house there) and then we headed south to CT. We had dinner in New Haven, and then we drove to Dave’s sister’s house in NJ.
This was the end of our New England trip, but not the end of our trip overall – we actually spent more time in NJ than in New England! So, I will be back next week with some of what we did while we were there.
