For today’s Random Friday Things, I have a lot of little life updates to share, starting with the end of school and including the beginning of our summer break.

After school ended, Gabbie had dance camp for two days. I got to go see the dances they learned and got a few pictures, of course!

That weekend, Gabbie and Zachary went on their youth group trip to Wisconsin Dells. It seems like they had a good time. We were home with just Simon and we went to the symphony and fireworks at the World War I Memorial for Memorial Day.

And we went to the street busker festival in Lawrence. The acts were amusing.

Zachary was supposed to start work when he got back from the trip but it rained a lot. So the pool was closed and so was the cafe where he’s working. Gabbie went to training for her camp counselor job but during the first day she texted me that her best friend who was on the trip with her tested Covid positive and she wasn’t feeling well, so I told her to come home. Gabbie was negative on our home tests, but she had a fever and she also had a scheduled doctor’s appointment, so they tested her there, and she was positive. On Thursday, I took Zachary for his booster shot because the schools we’re visiting in NYC require him to have it (and we hadn’t gotten it yet after he had Covid in January). So on Friday, Zachary didn’t feel well but that was probably because he’d just had the booster. We canceled our Shavuot plans and that turned out to be smart, because by Sunday I wasn’t feeling well. I kept falling asleep and I had cold symptoms. I did end up testing positive on a home test. Zachary seemed to have a cold as well, but tested negative, and Dave and Simon didn’t have symptoms at all. Gabbie is better and I’m out of quarantine as of today, feeling better but still a bit congested!

Because of Zachary’s cold, he didn’t start work on his birthday, but Gabbie went back to work and also to the store to get him a cake – it helps to have a teen who can help out like that! So we had cookie cake for his birthday on Tuesday!
