Thank you mackidsbooks and 01firstsecond for sending me a copy of Mixed-Up by Kami Garcia and illustrated by Brittney Williams. Mixed-Up is a middle grade graphic novel about Stella, a 5th grader who is struggling with reading. She and her friends are big fans of an online game and Stella finds it hard to play the game when she has to read a guide to get hints on game play. This causes a rift with her friends. Stella’s class is also writing books, and Stella writes a graphic novel that explains what she is going through.⁣
⁣
I loved how this book supported the idea that graphic novels can help students and can even help teachers to see who may be struggling with dyslexia. I also loved how Stella used her own graphic novel to help teach her friends about her learning differences.⁣

What is something that makes you feel mixed up?
Thank you tlcbooktours for sending me a copy of How To Draw Cute Stuff by Catherine V Holmes. There's a story behind these pictures - Simon saw me trying to take a photo and pretended to be one of the dogs I sometimes include when they lie on a blanket. Then, he grabbed the book and started to draw! So scroll to see all of that!⁣
⁣
This book is a step by step drawing guide for kids, although I love the ideas in it too. The guides are simple and easy to follow, perfect for emerging artists of any age. I love the animals and food items included!⁣

Thank you htp_hive for sending me a copy of Last Twilight in Paris by Pam Jenoff. I love her World War II focused historical fiction. This one is about Louise, who was a Red Cross volunteer who in 1953 finds a necklace that she knows she saw during the war. The story flashes back to her time volunteering, showing some of the failings of the Red Cross at the time. And the book also is about Helaine, growing up pre war and during the war being imprisoned inside the Levitan Department Store in Paris. ⁣
⁣
I loved the mystery of the necklace, as well as the one surrounding the death of Louise's friend Franny. I also liked the love story and the stories of the two featured women. ⁣
⁣
I can recommend this and these other books by Pam Jenoff that I've loved in the past. Have you read her books? Or who is an author who wrote many books you can recommend?
Thank you williammorrowbooks wmtastemakers for sending me a copy of We Are Watching by Alison Gaylin. I loved her previous book The Collective and I loved this one too. This is about a family that is targeted by conspiracy theorists with antisemitic ideas, accusing Meg's family as satanists. While Meg thought her father Nathan was just being paranoid, she soon realized how his fears were actually real. ⁣
⁣
This book begins with a car accident and the death of Meg's husband. Meg owns a bookstore and she keeps experiencing people acting strangely towards her and her family. Her relationship with her daughter Lily is an important part of the story as well. This was creepy and compelling and definitely a new favorite thriller. ⁣

Thank you workmanpub workmanpublishingambassador for sending me a copy of The Neat Method Organizing Recipe Book, which contains 70 Simple Projects to Take Your Home From Chaos to Composed. I go through phases where I want to organize everything and other times where I have ideas but never actually work on them. This book will help me with that motivation!⁣
⁣
The Neat Method consists of 6 steps - sort and categorize, edit, decide what goes where, add organizational products, put it together, and maintain. Covering lots of areas that need organization, maybe even I can create areas that lack chaos. ⁣
⁣
This closet is one of my more organized areas - I keep like things together so I know where they are. I just wish it wasn't so dark! What area in your home needs organizational help?
