We spent our spring break and the Passover holiday in NJ visiting family, and while much of the trip was holiday related, we had some tourist time too. When we’re in NJ, we’re also in NY! Starting with the flight into NYC. I was sleeping, but I woke up in time for one photo!
In the airport, the boys saw two of their friends who were catching a flight back to Kansas.
My brother-in-law is a big animal lover and this time he had guinea pigs!
In the morning, we had some lunch at my other brother-in-law’s restaurant.
Then the boys and I headed to NYC. I wasn’t going to go with them but we decided to visit Little Island, which is one place I’d wanted to visit and hadn’t yet! But first, we walked along the High Line – a place we’ve visited many times! However, we hadn’t been on the newer part and hadn’t yet seen this huge pigeon.
The boys even let me take their picture.
We saw the Vessel and what looked like a show or movie being filmed.
And we made it to Little Island. It’s not really an island since you can walk there. It’s basically a park! The weather wasn’t great, but that’s ok.
You could see the Statue of Liberty, but I couldn’t get it on my camera. Here’s Simon playing with a musical sidewalk square.
We walked over to Chelsea Market, which was fun for a time, and then we weren’t sure what to do next. The plan was to meet up with Dave who was working at the NYC office of his company, so we had some time left. We decided to check out the library, which I had been to in the past, but the boys hadn’t. Zachary especially seemed to be interested in that idea and luckily Simon went along with it! We took the subway and then we walked forever in the underground tunnels to get there.
Inside, we found a few interesting displays, firstly at the Treasures exhibit.
The kids enjoyed the old Jewish texts, but we were also a bit distracted by the news that a helicopter had crashed into the Hudson. It was sort of near where we had just been, so we wondered if we would have been aware if we’d still been there. Our next stop in the library was by these colorful Haggadot, which are the books we use on Passover.
Back outside we headed over to Grand Central, where we were meeting Dave, but first another shot of the library.
We had some dinner.
The next day, the boys went back to NYC but this time I didn’t go with them. Once they were back, they got to see their cousins and hold the guinea pigs!
Gabbie arrived from school and soon it was time to start celebrating Passover!
