Our annual Florida trip happened and went well, with no crazy travel issues like last year and slightly better weather! We started out this time with a direct flight, and we landed on a Monday evening. We got dinner and went to our Air BnB. Zachary had started out his trip in NYC, flew to Florida on Sunday, and stayed his first two nights with Dave’s parents. He joined us on Tuesday morning.
While we used to stay with my parents on our Florida trips, last year we stayed in an Air BnB for the first part of the trip due to Simon’s Covid recovery, and this year we did so because my mom recently had surgery and we weren’t sure how up to guests she would be. We stayed in a different Air BnB which didn’t have as many bedrooms, but did have a pool and hot tub in the back yard, so early on Tuesday that’s where the kids were!
And I was outside too, with my jeans and fleece on. It wasn’t warm enough to swim in my opinion, but the kids were happy.
That afternoon, we headed over to my parents’ neighborhood. We ended up walking with them over to the shuffleboard area and the kids played with my dad.
When they weren’t playing, they looked like this:
With my parents
That evening we went to a burger place with Dave’s parents for dinner. I got this burger salad. It was ok.
Meat is real, cheese is vegan.
On Wednesday, we went to Carvel for buy one get one free sundaes.
And then we went to my parents’ house and ended up going with my dad to the farm market nearby. The kids recreated a childhood memory with this picture.
I helped my mom with some yarn she was untangling and then we went to dinner at a BBQ restaurant. My mom was hoping to come out with us that night but she wasn’t feeling great. Dave’s mom also wasn’t feeling great, so we went just with us.
This was our favorite restaurant on the trip. That’s once again real meat and vegan cheese.
That night, we walked around downtown Delray Beach, which we always like to do. They have a huge Christmas tree you can go inside and some other fun displays to check out.
This was in a hotel that we stopped in to use the bathroom. It was some sort of mirrored art that seemed to go on forever.
On Thursday morning, we decided to head down to Hollywood Beach. My mom had her follow up surgery appointment so we weren’t hanging out at my parents’ that day. We had lunch at a cafe and I got a good salad.
Hollywood Beach is one of our yearly Florida traditions. We like to ride on the boardwalk in a surrey.
Just as we were about to head back for dinner, we spotted this guy:
This trip became all about the iguanas for me – more about that next time!
