This past weekend, Billy Joel was performing at Arrowhead in Kansas City (where the Chiefs play). I wanted to go to this show ever since I found out about it, but being that it was on a Saturday night, I didn’t know if we would be able to get there without missing a huge chunk of the show after Shabbat ended.
As it turns out, since he was playing with Stevie Nicks, and she performed first, the timing was perfect. According to the internet, she played for the first two hours and he played for the next two hours, with a short break in between. So when we left our house at 8:55 and got there by 9:25, he was just going on stage. I bought the tickets on Friday when I saw they were down to about $100 each. Somehow it was cheaper to buy a batch of 6 than a batch of 5, so we were able to invite a friend who was excited to see the show too. Yes, it would have saved a lot of money if just Dave and I had gone, but Simon is a huge fan and once I was bringing him along, I wanted to bring the other kids too!
So we kind of missed the first song as we stopped at the bathroom and made our way to our seats, but he started with My Life. I took a lot of videos and not as many pictures, but here they are:
The set list:
My Life
Movin’ Out
Kansas City snippet
The Entertainer
Just The Way You Are
Zanzibar
Start Me Up (Rolling Stones), partial
An Innocent Man
The Lion Sleeps Tonight, partial
The Longest Time
Don’t Ask Me Why
Vienna
Allentown
Only The Good Die Young
The River of Dreams (with insert of River Deep, Mountain High sung by his backup singer Crystal who has been with him forever!)
Nessun dorma (Italian song) sung by Mike DelGuidice
Scenes From an Italian Restaurant
Piano Man
I’m so glad he doesn’t end with Piano man anymore! He does a 5 song encore, so don’t be confused and leave!
Encore:
We Didn’t Start The Fire
Uptown Girl
It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me
Big Shot
You May Be Right (with insert of Rock n Roll by Led Zepplin sung by Mike DelGuidice)
Gabbie was excited to hear Vienna and there was a young girl a few rows back who was singing along loudly and it was very cute. Simon loves We Didn’t Start The Fire, so I was excited for him to hear that one! Gabbie videoed me singing along and I refused to watch it.
Overall we had a lot of fun!
