Welcome to the Not Just a Mom Link Up hosted by myself, Adrienne, Jen, Joanne, Lauren, and Sarah! This month, we are talking about healthy habits and staying motivated. Are you one of those people who make a New Year’s Resolution to get healthy and then taper off of that goal by February? How do you stay motivated?
For me, healthy habits consist of a few separate parts: drinking enough water, eating healthy food, getting a good night’s sleep, and being more active.
In order to drink enough water, I use a water bottle with hourly marks on it. This way, I know I have to drink the amount it says by the time it says in order to space it out throughout the day. If I don’t do that, I end up having to drink too much at once! I have a 32 oz bottle which I fill up twice, and if I’m done on time, I add two extra cups after dinner.
Eating healthy food is a difficult one, because I don’t feel like I eat very badly overall. I have majorly cut down on carbs, but I like sweets a little too much! I wrote about how I lost weight in the past, and right now I went back on my strict diet in order to lose the 10 pounds I gained in 2020. After 2 weeks, I’m already down about 6!
Getting a good night’s sleep is also kind of hard for me. I go to bed around 11 pm, and I can usually fall asleep after reading a bit, but sometimes I wake up during the night and I’m unable to fall back to sleep. That definitely effects how I feel the next day!
Lastly, being more active is also hard at the moment. For the longest time I have been a faithful gym class attendee, but with Covid we decided attending classes wasn’t a good idea anymore. So I started running, and I always feel good when I do so, but I am far less motivated to run on the treadmill then to run outside, and it’s cold out now! Listening to a good audio book while I run makes it a lot more interesting for me.
Staying motivated is another challenge, and I think seeing my own progress keeps me going! I know that when I eat badly I gain weight, so that motivates me to eat better. It helps to set things in smaller goals, like telling myself I want to be at a certain weight this week, rather than by the end of a month. Seeing the numbers on my water bottle motivates me, since I know I need to drink that much water by the time it says! And I think having someone to cheer you on is a huge motivator. My husband helped me a lot when I was working on losing the weight the first time!
