Today is Simon’s golden birthday – 14 on the 14th. I’m not sure what this means other than that it’s fun – I definitely missed Zachary’s when he turned 7 and Gabbie’s when she turned 1! Here’s a look back at Simon’s year.
Last August, Simon turned 13, started 8th grade, and celebrated his bar mitzvah.
We also saw Billy Joel in concert, which was apparently his dream come true!
September 2023 – at a Sporting KC game
Simon was supposed to have an easier time at school with an educational plan in place to help him, but I wasn’t completely happy with how they dealt with it. 8th grade seemed to go better than 7th though.
October brought the attack in Israel and we celebrated our community at the Jewish Culture Fest. Simon got this caricature done with one of his friends. We traveled to NJ and visited family.
In November, it was back to NJ for Thanksgiving. We also went to Amherst to bring Gabbie back to school.
In December, we celebrated Hanukkah and traveled to Florida for winter break. We always have fun together on that trip.
January brought the Chiefs post-season and Simon enjoyed watching the Superbowl in February with friends. He went with Zachary and some friends to the Superbowl parade too.
In March, Gabbie was home for spring break and we celebrated Purim.
Simon also did a lot of biking with his friends.
In April, Simon was in the middle school play. We celebrated Passover. In May, Simon finished up 8th grade. Simon got even taller this year and is now the tallest kid in our family.
We spent the beginning of summer break in Israel and Simon had a good time.
When we got home, Simon spent a lot of time volunteering at the school cafe and he did some small jobs for people in the neighborhood too. Of course, he also went on bike rides!
Here’s hoping 14 will be even better than 13!
