Yesterday was the boys’ last day of school and when thinking about what to say about it, I reread the post I wrote at the end of the 21-22 school year and I liked the way I did that one so I thought I would replicate it here. Gabbie already finished school, but I have to include her too. Also, today is Dave’s birthday, so happy birthday to him!
Gabbie
This year, Gabbie…
Was a college freshman.
Lived across the country from us.
Came home for visits in October, December-January, March, and April.
Took classes in her declared journalism major.
Did well in her classes.
Considered switching majors or adding an addition major.
Had a photo published in the school paper.
Had to find a new roommate for next year.
Called home just about every night.
Joined the UMass Tap Team.
Was active in the Jewish group on campus.
Moved herself out of her dorm.
Is currently in Israel and will be home for the summer in June.
Will be working at the J Camp this summer.
Zachary
This year, Zachary…
Was in 11th grade.
Got his license and drove himself and Simon to school.
Really connected with his interest in Jewish topics.
Switched his first semester elective from psychology to Jewish Mysticism.
Went to Washington, D.C. for the rally in support of Israel.
Remained active in his youth group.
Helped me volunteer at the school cafe, until he got a job.
Started working at the J after school program.
Did pretty well in his classes.
Took the AP Stats test and the SAT.
Started thinking seriously about what he wants to do after high school.
Did tech (sound cues) on the high school play.
Actually finished school the day before this sign says because he left for another youth group weekend.
Still has Invisalign even though his teeth look good to me.
Will be working at the J Camp this summer.
Simon
This year, Simon…
Was in 8th grade.
Hung out with mostly older kids.
Had a 504 plan, though I was not thrilled on how the school followed through with his needs.
Decided to continue at the same school for high school.
Got a lot taller and is now the tallest kid in the family.
Started shaving.
Isn’t wearing the same shirt in these pictures because he’s gone up sizes!
Has to be monitored for scoliosis.
Got a new bike and biked a ton.
Went to youth group events.
Was in the middle school play.
Helped me volunteer at the school cafe.
Has no plans this summer (he is too young for the counselor in training program at the J!).
We do get out of school somewhat early, but don’t forget, we go back in August!
