The boys started back to school this week and neither was really ready to go back, but summer break has to come to an end at some point! The public schools here start a week before we do and some still say we start early, as people from NJ are used to starting in September. All – we’ve lived here for 15 years and every year school starts in August!
[Zachary]
Last first day of school for Zachary! (at least in high school). He is a senior and needs to get going on those college essays. He is taking US History, Talmud, Honors Physics, AP Calculus, Hebrew, Jewish Studies, English Composition through the community college, and a study hall. Talmud is considered an independent study class and he is assigned to another elective as well, but he thinks he isn’t taking that one anymore. The college class starts on Monday and I’m concerned about him keeping up with it. It’s an online class, and he should be working on it when the rest of his class has English at school.
[Simon]
Simon is a freshman this year. Our school is k-12, so he isn’t switching very much, except that now he is part of the high school and not the middle school. He is taking World History, Though Provoking Movies (an elective), Geometry, Hebrew, Talmud, Jewish Studies, English, and Biology. I am most concerned about his English class, as it is a hard subject for him and the teacher can be difficult. He is concerned about Talmud, because his teacher is new and not moving here for two weeks and he is not a fan of the possible substitute! It will only be for two weeks though – he’ll be fine. I am also unsure about Simon’s learning plan and whether the learning specialist is going to contact me about it – I think that’s her job, but as a parent I probably have to advocate for a meeting with his teachers.
Happy Back to School for those who have already started!
