Today is Dave’s birthday and because the kids didn’t feel like doing another round of “how well do you know your father?” I decided to steal an idea from Natasha’s husband (also named Dave) and tell you all about Dave with bits of trivia. Natasha’s Dave organized the post he wrote using Trivial Pursuit categories and since that is a game we like to play, I loved that idea, so I’m doing the same!
Geography
1. Dave loves to travel and that is probably why I love to travel too.
2. He has been to all 50 states.
50th State – ND – in 2020
3. He’s been to more countries than me, including two times to Europe since I’ve known him on trips that I did not go with him.
4. He would really like to go to Asia.
5. He doesn’t mind driving on long road trips so we have driven from here to FL and to NJ and back with him doing all or almost all of the driving.
6. He is good at finding random roadside attractions to stop by on road trips.
7. He has always been interested in planes and air travel and Zachary is also interested in those things now.
8. We have been on a few cruises together – to Alaska, Western Caribbean, the Bahamas twice, and a Disney cruise which went to Cozumel and Cayman Island.
9. He has gone to Israel with just Gabbie (when she was 3) and just Zachary (when he was 10).
Entertainment
10. This would probably be one of the categories Dave knows the least about, as he isn’t really into pop culture.
11. This year we went to see Elton John in concert.
12. I used to play a game where I’d make him guess the musical artist of songs on the radio and sometimes he would get it right.
13. He recently rewatched Seinfeld – but instead of watching the show, sometimes he just listened to it while running.
14. Dave’s favorite form of entertainment is visiting breweries and trying new beers.
15. He also likes to take bike rides.
16. On his phone, Dave scans Facebook and the news, but doesn’t play any games.
History
17. Dave is 9 and 11 years younger than his sisters and is 11 years older than his oldest niece.
18. He grew up in the same house that his parents still live in.
19. He went to college thinking he would study pharmacy, didn’t like his science classes, and switched to major in finance.
20. He ended up getting an MBA.
21. We moved to KS for his job, which is based here, although he worked for the same company and department when we lived in NJ.
22. He recently shared about his trip to Poland which he went on to learn more about his family history.
Arts and Literature
23. Dave reads but he depends on me to pick books out for him.
24. He mostly reads rom coms!
25. He likes an occasional thriller, and recently read a historical fiction and a memoir.
26. I wouldn’t say he’s into art, but he will go to museums.
Science and Nature
27. Dave and I both enjoy hiking, though we did so more often in NJ than we do here.
28. Our recent National Park trips have gotten us into nature more often.
29. Dave is the cook in our family – that counts as science, right?
30. Dave runs and bikes on a trail and will often take pictures of snakes that he sees blocking the way.
31. He doesn’t love animals like I do but he will go to zoos and nature centers.
32. He is interested in farms and agriculture, probably due to working in agricultural mortgages.
33. Although he doesn’t want the responsibility of a pet, he enjoyed some of the dogs we’ve fostered over the last year.
Sports and Leisure
34. As mentioned, Dave likes to bike and run.
35. Dave exercises 6 days a week.
36. He will cheer for local sports teams but isn’t a huge sports fan.
37. We have been to a Chiefs game and plenty of Royals games since we moved here.
38. We made sure we were in attendance at the parades after the Royals won the World Series and after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl – and Dave took off work for both.
39. Even though it was originally my idea, Dave insists on taking a walk every evening.
40. We ran a 1/2 marathon together and Dave could probably do one again.
Four More Facts
41. Dave doesn’t like anyone else to sit or lie on the couch that he prefers.
42. He often falls asleep while lying on said couch, with his phone or a book in his hand.
43. He is able to tune things out and sometimes doesn’t hear us when we tell him things – or he conveniently forgets!
44. He is a great dad and husband!
Happy Birthday Dave!
