It’s been awhile since I’ve shared a random Friday post, but today I have some things to share. Starting with Purim, the holiday we celebrated last Friday.

Gabbie came home for spring break last week and arranged it so that she could be here for Purim. The first thing she did was make hamentashen!
They managed not to fall apart in the oven! The chocolate one is one of the ones Simon made the night before at his youth group, but we needed to bake it still.

Gabbie and her friends dressed up as magical creatures. They are so cute.

Simon dressed up as an F1 driver who is a person I’ve never heard of…but team Red Bull? I don’t know.

Zachary didn’t dress up but he did borrow Dave’s cowboy hat for the carnival at school. Here are the kids heading out to deliver mishloach manot (gifts of food).

This week we have a new dog visitor here. Here is when he first got here and met Gabbie.

Gabbie and I went to see the documentary October 8. It’s on a limited run at AMC theaters and it’s about the explosion of antisemitism after October 7th, beginning the very next day, hence the title. We saw it at a small theater and we knew almost everyone else who was there, which is sad because we’re the ones who already know the how and why of it all. We followed it as it happened. But seeing it all laid out in the documentary was very powerful.

An amusing thing that happened this week – Zachary was looking at the list of kids going to the gap year program he’s on and we noticed that one of the boys shares my maiden name. It’s not such a common name so I started doing some research – the kid’s dad even has the same first name as my dad! But there’s no connection on my family tree at the level of my grandfather’s first cousins, so it would have had to be farther back…and from what I found it seems that this kid’s grandfather may have changed his name to that name! So we wouldn’t be related, and also, how strange.
