It’s the end of October, so it’s time to take a look back at this month in review. It was another super quick month! Here’s a look back at October.
Daily Life
October was all about the holidays here. It was a strange year, since the holidays fall out late this year and none of them landed in September, so literally all of October was holiday filled. The boys didn’t have a full week of school at all this month counting half days and days off, until this week, although they have a late start today!
With relatively few blog posts this month I only shared a few of the photos I took, so I actually have some to add today.
Throwing it back to Rosh Hashanah, here are some of the dishes I made:

School
Like I mentioned, the boys had very little school days this month, but somehow the first quarter ended. I’m honestly dreading going to parent-teacher conferences next week because I know I’m going to get upset when I hear from Simon’s teachers. He has C’s in three classes as of the last time I checked. Part due to missing assignments and part due to bad quiz grades. He is supposed to have accommodations but I’m not sure what would make it easier for him because his problem seems to be motivation. He gets mad when I remind him to do his homework, much less study for things. I don’t think the teachers will have much to offer to help me!
I’m proud of Zachary for doing well in his classes, including his college English class! It’s also exciting that he’ll be done with English for the year when this semester ends. He is thinking about whether to take another college class next semester to fill that spot on his schedule!
Activities
The kids have had some youth group events this month, and enjoyed hanging out with their friends over the holidays. They had multiple sleepovers at various friend’s houses during Sukkot! They also went apple picking before Rosh Hashanah:
I love their friend group! The older lady at the end is their friends’ grandma who is from Israel. They also went apple picking with her last year.
We adults had some Sukkot gatherings too! With friends –
And with an organization we’re part of – Dave had a very intense game of Jenga!
Health / Fitness
I went to the gym once to see if I could do it and it went ok. I haven’t been able to go back yet! I would have yesterday, but I was asked to sub at preschool. I’m doing ok with walking and even took some short dog walks with dogs I’ve been watching this month.
The other two I watched were too big for me to walk on my own, but here they are:
As I mentioned on Monday, I graduated from both my orthopedist and my PT this month. Walking is still a little painful at times, and going down stairs is still the hardest thing.
TV
The Chiefs are still undefeated, which is amazing. Here’s when I was watching football and baseball at the same time:
And here’s when I was watching football with a buddy:
I sent this picture to his mom and she sent back one of her at the game! I was jealous!
I’ve also been watching 9-1-1, 9-1-1 Lone Star, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Tracker, and I started Brilliant Minds which I enjoyed so I need to watch more of that!
Reading
I’ve been reading a lot and a lot are books I really enjoyed – 5 star reviews coming on Friday! You can see the first half of my books for this month here.
Other
It was the one year anniversary of the 10/7 attack and we went to a vigil for that. Also, there was a display in honor of the hostages that the middle schoolers contributed to – my young friend showed me all the ones that she made while I was taking these pictures!
I shared some Northern Lights pictures here, and here are some fall pictures I took too:
Also, I voted.
Coming Up
My birthday is coming soon – I want to go to the Chiefs game that day but tickets are really expensive. The boys are going to a youth group weekend. And then we go to NJ for Thanksgiving!
How was your October?
