For today’s random Friday things post I have some life updates – a lot happened last week that I wanted to share!

The Chiefs won the Super Bowl. We watched it at our friends’ house. There were three TVs going and the kids were with their friends while the parents were upstairs. It was a nail biter! The kids were so excited when they won and I enjoyed seeing them celebrating with their friends.
Their dog is named Chief!

The day after the Super Bowl started with me making coffee with my Keurig but without a mug. I didn’t realize until I went to pick up my coffee that I’d made it all over the counter. I guess I was tired.

Gabbie was upset when we talked that night because her roommate decided to live with someone else next year. She is still trying to figure out who she will live with now.

On Tuesday (last week), Simon stayed home sick. That was his second sick day in two weeks. We went to the doctor and he was negative for flu, covid, and strep, so we don’t know what was wrong.

The boys and their friends went to the Super Bowl parade. Dave was out of town and I didn’t feel like going so we allowed them to go on their own. They took the bus. They ended up meeting up with our friend who works downtown and he let them into his office to watch from there. They also went onto the roof for a bit.
My friend sent me this picture of the group.

And then there was a shooting. I was watching the livestream of the rally but the news had no idea anything happened. Simon texted me that something was going on and it was a good thing they had left. They were almost back home and the livestream they were watching showed people running. So I knew my kids were ok before I knew what happened. A lot of people were saying this was the first time they’d been so close to a shooting. Ten years ago, there was a shooting at our Jewish Community Center and Gabbie was there at the time. It was a tough reminder that nothing much has changed.

Dogs make things better:

On Thursday I had a dermatology appointment. I had been meaning to get a skin check for a few years now and finally made the appointment! They biopsied two spots and both came back benign. I need to keep them covered with bandaids and somehow I lost the box of bandaids that I put on my desk and planned to use! I still have no idea where it went.

Last Saturday, we had a 10/7 survivor speak at our synagogue. He had moved to a kibbutz in the south of Israel on 10/1 and on 10/7 he found himself hiding from terrorists for hours with his three young children. Here is a post from Dave about it:
We were pretty surprised that he said the only college campus he’d visited in which his talk was protested was KU. We hear daily about college campuses supporting “resistance by any means” so I would have expected more push back – and I’m glad he hadn’t encountered that, but it was sad to hear how he’d been greeted in our community.

As for this week, the boys were off school on Monday and Tuesday and spent time with friends. Simon somehow organized a group bike ride which was pretty cute! Also this week I met the author Sara Goodman Confino who came to town for an author event. She acknowledged me as if she knew me – from Instagram! so that was pretty cool.
Have a great weekend!
