When we are in NJ to see family, we always end up visiting New York City as well. This time, we had two short time periods to spend in the city, so we visited two separate places. The first was the NY Transit Museum and the second was the Central Park Zoo.
The NY Transit Museum is located in Brooklyn. We took the bus from NJ and Gabbie met up with a friend while the rest of us took the subway to the museum. It is located in an old subway station and it consists of some exhibits about the history of the NYC subways and a collection of vintage subway cars to explore. While at first Simon wasn’t sure he was interested in the history lesson, he soon became happy sitting in all of the subway cars! Zachary loved the entire place.
Vintage Subway entrances:
When I was little, my dad commuted to the city and used the subway. I remember him having tokens, but I also thought dimes were specifically used on the subway!
Simon pretending to be a Subway driver:
And Dave doing the same:
And now he’s a bus driver:
I liked this art work:

And now for the old cars:
Pretending to be a commuter:
After the museum, we headed back to the Times Square area to meet Gabbie and have some lunch. We saw the New Year’s Eve ball! We also saw a dead rat in a crosswalk, but no pictures of that!
Then, on the day we were leaving for home, we went back to the city to go to the Central Park Zoo. We had planned to meet Dave’s sister and our nephew and his daughter, but they left a bit after us. There was traffic and nowhere to park and by the time we got there, we only had about 20 minutes before we had to continue on to the airport! So it was a very quick visit. This was just a building I liked on the way to the park:
It was still fall there with pretty leaves!
I just liked that this woman was working on a rock in the park:
At the zoo:
Dave went to get the car and meet us so we could have a bit more time at the zoo. The kids ended up doing some kind of photo shoot…
Best friends:
Crossing the street to go meet Dave, I snapped this without looking and ended up with a pretty cool result!
New York City is always fun to explore, but on this trip we also visited Philadelphia! I’ll share more about that next week!
