Yesterday was Simon’s 12th birthday. He is the silliest and most outgoing of my kids and also the one who has the hardest time staying on task and remembering to get ready for bed or do whatever else he’s supposed to be doing. He is just busy having fun! Like I did on Zachary’s birthday, I am updating my previous ABCs of Simon post, which was from his 3rd birthday!
August 2021 – 11th birthday
Age: 12 years old yesterday!
Birthday: August 14, 2010
Chores: Does he do chores? He sets the table on Friday nights and Saturday lunch. He still – as he did when he was 3 – puts out my candles to light for Shabbat. He is supposed to help put away dishes but he doesn’t. He also is awful at keeping his room clean. He does like raking leaves and shoveling snow!
Drink of choice: His latest obsession is Gatorade. He also likes Sprite, Root Beer, and really any sweet drink we allow him.
Education: Simon is starting 7th grade in one week. He is pretty good in school when he tries. His least favorite class is math. His most favorite is English.
September 2021 – He is not sure if he’ll play soccer this year because he wants to see how much homework he’ll have.
Favorite color: Blue.
Grandparents: Simon is pretty close with both sets of his grandparents and is always happy to talk to them on the phone.
December 2021 – visits to both sets of grandparents
Height: I’m pretty sure he’s 5’1. I’m 5’2, so any day now I’ll be the shortest in the family.
Interests: Simon loves cars and can name any type of car we might see. He also likes playing computer games and biking.
Job he’d like: When he was 3, I quoted him as saying he wanted to be a monster when he grew up. Now he says he doesn’t know what he wants to be. He’s always talking about things he wants to do, like move to Texas or have certain things in his life.
Kids: Little kids love Simon! He just told me he wants to have 3 kids when he grows up but he wants them all to be the oldest.
Looks: Cute! He has dimples. He got glasses this year!
May 2022 – long hair and glasses.
Moods: Usually he is in a good mood but sometimes he can get cranky. He loves being silly.
Nicknames: He doesn’t really have a nickname but at camp his official moniker was “ladies’ man.”
Overnight: Simon has been having some trouble sleeping at night and will come into my room and tell me he can’t sleep. I always ask him what he wants me to do about it!
Pet Peeve: He doesn’t like being left out of things.
Quote he likes: He will sometimes repeat the same things over and over but mostly he just comes up with new things. For a little while I kept a list of the random things he said, including “How do you say Gutentag in Chinese?”, “Can I stick my head in the light?”, “I have Crocs!,” and “God Bless America.”
Right or left-handed: Right.
Siblings: He loves them both but he is very close with Gabbie. He was so excited to see her after they were apart for 6 weeks!
June 2022
Time he’s at his best: I asked him when he’s at his best and he said “tomorrow.”
Underwear: He wears it!
Vegetables: He likes cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, and potatoes.
Wears: He’d stay in his pajamas all day if I didn’t remind him to get dressed. He wears t-shirts and shorts these days.
Xrays: He had one when he broke his finger! And he points out that he has them at the dentist.
Yummies: He prefers dairy food to meat food. His favorite food is mac and cheese.
Zoo favorites: He went to the zoo with camp and came back saying his new favorite animal is the capybera.
