Welcome to the Share Our Lives link up hosted by myself, Adrienne, Jen, Joanne, and Sarah! We are sharing our lives this year on the second Monday of each month, and this month’s prompt is staying connected to loved ones. Since I have two kids living across the country and across the world from me right now, I thought I’d write a little bit about that!
– Gabbie is in her third year as a college student in Massachusetts. It’s not easy to come home for the weekend from that far away! A lot of times we see her when we come to NJ for family events or holidays.
– She likes to talk to me, and I’m lucky! She calls me every night, usually on Facetime, so I feel like I get to see her. Plus, because she is open with me and recaps her days, I feel like I know what she’s up to.
– Zachary is not such a phone person, but before he left, we made a deal that he’d call me once a week. And he’s stuck to it! He calls on Thursdays, also using Facetime, and we talk for up to an hour, depending when he gets free to call.
– Zachary also texts me during the week – not every day, but if he wants to tell me something.
– One fun thing is knowing other people who see him and who report back. Zachary isn’t great at taking photos of people, especially of himself, so I always like when someone sends something like this:

– I also follow his school on social media and get emails from them, so sometimes he pops up in pictures there.
– We have a family WhatsApp group that we post on when we want to tell everyone something, or share photos of food.
If you posted about staying connected to loved ones, you can link up with us here!
We also have our new topics for 2026 ready, so make a note to link up with us throughout the new year.

In general, I think I do a pretty good job of connected with my faraway kids. How do you stay connected?
