When we left off in trip recap part 2, we had checked out of our hotel in Brookings, OR. Now we were on our way to California. Visiting the Redwood Forest is something I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember!
We went to the Grove of Titans trail and our rental van proceeded to become stuck in the parking spot we chose. It looked like it sunk into the ground somehow! So while we were walking the trail, we were also contacted AAA to pull us out of the spot! Anyway, the trees were big!
After we saw this statue and information about banana slugs, we also spotted a real one.
I didn’t know that the Redwoods were actually red on the inside.
After the tow truck pulled out our car, our next stop was at the Big Tree Wayside, where the trees were labeled as Big Trees, just in case that wasn’t obvious!
We went on the Avenue of the Giants and I have some randomly taken photos of more big trees.
We stopped at a store and Simon got a sweatshirt.
We also paid $15 to drive through a tree. It was amusing as the van barely fit through! This is what the inside looked like:
That night, we started dealing with our suitcases and clothes to try to make sure we didn’t pick up any bedbugs at our previous hotel. We had to wash and / or dry everything and put everything into bags to keep it all separate…it was a bit annoying! But the good news is we didn’t see any more bugs.
