Today is Zachary’s 15th birthday. I’m starting to feel very old! Zachary is such an interesting kid – he loves to talk and tell people facts, but he doesn’t really like to talk about himself. So instead of rehashing his one word interview answers, I decided to just write a post about him. I was recently looking back on my blog and saw that for his 6th birthday I wrote a post called the ABCs of Zachary. I thought it would be fun to update that post 9 years later!
July 2021 – NYC
Age: 15 years old today!
Birthday: June 7, 2007
Chores: This year Zachary became the designated dish washer. However, over the past little while he hasn’t really been doing it! I’ll need to work on that.
Drink of choice: If he can order a drink, he likes Sprite. At Top Golf he likes Shirley Temples. He loves hot chocolate. And he will drink water too.
Education: He just finished 9th grade. I’m thankful he decided to stay at his current school for high school. I think it’s good for him.
August 2021
Favorite color: Blue. This has stayed the same since he was little!
Grandparents: It’s been hard over the past few years but luckily we are able to see our family more often now. We’ll be celebrating his grandparents’ 80th birthdays in a few weeks!

Height: He’s taller than me and I’m 5’2. He’s probably 5’3 or 5’4 now.
Interests: He is into technology and is always willing to help others with their technical issues. He loves geography, roads, transportation, and traveling. He also likes to debate – I wish our school still had a debate team!
Job he’d like: When he was 6, Zachary said he’d like to be a train conductor, a police man, and a builder. Cute! Now he talks about becoming a lawyer and a previous idea was an engineer. He most likely wants to make the most money that he can.
Kids: He doesn’t mind little kids. He is friends with everyone!

Looks: He has recently decided he likes his hair longer and he hates having it cut. It is semi-curly these days. He has had Invisalign for about 6 months and you can tell a difference. He recently started shaving although he doesn’t need to do so very often! He doesn’t often like to be in pictures so it’s hard to add any here!
Moods: Zachary used to have major mood swings and we never knew what might set him off. Luckily this has gotten less as he’s gotten older. Now his moods go from talkative to annoyed, but usually talkative.
Nicknames: If you call him Zach, he will say that’s not his name. Gabbie sometimes calls him Zach-we. Once Zachary randomly said to call him Joey, so she had him in her phone as Joey for awhile!
Overnight: He’s a teenager – he stays up semi late and sleeps late when he can.
Pet peeve: He has always had issues with certain textures and sounds. He doesn’t like when people ask him questions about himself.
Quote he likes: In the post I wrote when he was 6, I said he likes to make up words for common things. He still does this! He changes the pronunciation of things based on how they are spelled. When he’s talking, he often says “right?” to make sure you’re following him.
Right or left-handed: Zachary is a lefty. He just got his Covid booster shot and decided he should have it in his left arm, because he uses his right to hold his phone.
Siblings: As the middle child, there are times when he has more in common with his older sister and times he has more in common with his younger brother. They all annoy each other occasionally and get along great occasionally!

Time he’s at his best: Probably afternoon.
Underwear: Well, these prompts are meant for little kids! So yes, thankfully he does wear underwear!
Vegetables: The only real vegetable he eats are potatoes.
Wears: He likes shirts that are soft and he never wears jeans. He started liking his school pants because they have good pockets to hold his phone, airpods, and Invisalign case!

Xrays: I don’t think he has had any. His most random injury / illness was an infection on his ear after getting hit by a ball. No xray required. (That was awhile ago!)
Yummies: Last year he said his favorite food is French Fries and it probably still is. He likes hamburgers and hot dogs and complains if we have veggie based meats. He recently started eating eggs – omelets or scrambled. For breakfast he eats Eggo Chocolate Chip Waffles. For snacks he likes chocolate bars, Cheez-Its, and Pringles.
Zoo favorites: He hasn’t been to the zoo in awhile! He usually would rather stay home if we go places and when Simon and I recently went to the zoo, Zachary didn’t come. He doesn’t really like animals in general!
If it doesn’t rain again, Zachary will be starting his job today – on his birthday! He has said he’d like to celebrate when we can go out to eat in Toronto later this month, but I’m sure I’ll get him some sort of cake today!
