I usually start my month in review posts by mentioning that the month sped by – well January did not speed by at all! It is such a long month for some reason. We came home from Florida, had an extended winter break due to snow, followed the news, spent time with friends, took care of dogs, and more. Here’s a look back at January.
Daily Life
January was a bit of a mix of the normal and the abnormal. Gabbie was home most of the month, so I spent time with her. Dave was away for a week. Ozzie and Duncan came for 10 days. Zachary started his new class at the community college, so I’m driving Simon to school twice a week, and I went back to the gym. Now we’re watching two dogs we haven’t watched before, so we are adjusting to them being here.
This month was full of snow and cold weather.
Teenagers.
I tried to get them to all look at me but it didn’t work.
These two are so cute.
This is Teddy, who took a liking to Gabbie!
School
We’re back after break and Simon already scored a C on a test. When I asked him about it, he said he did great. So…I don’t know.
Gabbie starts second semester of sophomore year tomorrow. She said she wanted to review for Calculus during break, but she didn’t. I’m sure she’ll be fine though!
Zachary has one more college acceptance that he’s waiting for and then it’s decision time. He does still plan to do a gap year as well.
Activities
Gabbie and I did mostly all of the things we wanted to do while she was home. One was to go to the Cat Cafe.
She went to a few youth group events with the boys and the boys kept busy as usual. Simon went snow tubing this past weekend but Zachary didn’t want to go.
One of Zachary’s friends who moved away after 4th grade came to visit. We had a nice time with him.
Dave and I went to see Jerry Seinfeld doing stand up. It was pretty fun to see him live.
Health / Fitness
I went to the gym and walked on the track, which did make my ankle hurt a bit. I also go to barre class, which I still like. I plan to keep going on days I drop off Simon, if I’m not busy otherwise!
I went to the endocrinologist and because my levels are up I’m scheduled for an MRI. I have what’s called a prolactinoma, which we have been monitoring. It’s treatable with medication, so I will probably start that after they determine how large it actually is.
While Gabbie was home she got the flu. Strangely enough, she was the only one of us to have had the vaccine, and she was the only one (so far) who got sick. This put some limits on her break, but I’m glad she was home and not at school, plus she didn’t have to miss class or anything while she was recovering!
TV
I started two more medical shows this month – Noah Wylie is back in one called The Pitt, and the other one is just called Doc. Both are good. I also watched two movies with Gabbie – Out of My Mind and Holiday Touchdown – the Hallmark movie about a Chiefs fan. I don’t think I’ve ever watched a Hallmark movie before and I found it rather amusing!
And of course I’m watching the Chiefs! I tried not to get nervous watching the game this week, but by the end I was definitely freaking out. I’m sorry to all the other teams out there but ours is just the best. I know I’d hate them if I didn’t live here!
Reading
I shared the first half of my month of reading here and I’ll be sharing my 5 star reads for this month on Friday.
Coming Up
Dave and I are going on a little getaway! Stay tuned for that! Then Zachary is visiting Gabbie at school, and two weeks later Zachary and Simon have a youth group trip to NY! So February is going to be a busy month!
How was your January?
