Welcome to the new Share Our Lives link up hosted by myself, Adrienne, Jen, Joanne, and Sarah! We will be sharing our lives this year on the second Monday of each month, starting with our introductions to us and sharing our past jobs. I have definitely shared introductions to myself many times before, including in last January’s Not Just a Mom Introduction post, so I’m going to focus on sharing my past jobs today.
It took me awhile, but I found the post I’d previously written about my past jobs! Some of this is definitely repeated from there.
1. My first job was pouring paint at a party craft store. Kids would have birthday parties there and they would paint ceramic type items. I was paid $5 per party to give the kids the paint colors they wanted in their paint palettes. It was easy and pretty fun! I think I was around 12 at the time.
2. As a kid I babysat pretty often. That lasted throughout high school as well.
3. I was a camp counselor for a few summers at the day camp that I grew up attending. It started out ok and was pretty bad my final summer working there.
4. I just remembered that I was some sort of assistant at my Hebrew School. I helped the principal with paperwork type things and also tutored kids in Hebrew reading a bit.
5. I worked at Borders Bookstore – it must have been during college that I started there. I worked there on breaks and in the summer.
6. College Bookstore – I worked in the medical books section and had to memorize all the different medical specialties!
7. I had a summer internship at the Jewish Federation in their communications department. It was kind of boring.
8. In college I worked at the local Y afterschool program for a little while.
9. I did some temp jobs, mostly office work, but like I wrote in my previous post, one that stands out was where I had to call doctors offices all day long trying to get the doctors to sign up for continuing education classes.
10. During college I worked for the Department of Students with Disabilities – I took notes in classes for kids who couldn’t write, etc.
11. For one summer I was a receptionist at an insurance agency.
12. During grad school I had two internships, one was at the Jewish Community Center and one was at Jewish Family Services.
13. For one summer I was an assistant director at a local day camp, for the younger group of kids.
14. After I graduated grad school, I was a social worker at four jobs – a clinician with Therapeutic Foster Care, a school counselor at school for kids with disabilities, a school counselor at school for kids with behavior issues, and a school social worker at a (different) school for kids with disabilities.
15. After that social work job, I went on maternity leave because I was pregnant with Zachary, and I never returned to social work. I’m a stay at home mom now, and have recently expanded my dog sitting business onto Rover!
If you wrote a post about the jobs you’ve had, you can link up with us here! And come back next month when we’re sharing how we met our significant others (or best friends).
What is a job that you’ve had?
