It’s time for my look back at 2023 in reading, books read, and favorite books of each genre! When you read as much as I do, it is hard to narrow down favorites, so I always start with a complete list of the books I loved and continue on from there. I am also linking up with the Top Ten Tuesday link up!
Here is a look at my year in reading stats:
This year I read 259 books. This is less than I read in 2022 and 2021, but the same amount that I read in 2020.
I read the most in March and April, tied for 25 books each.
I read the least in November and December, tied for 18 books each.
My highest read genre, as usual, was contemporary fiction.
My next most read genres were rom coms, thrillers, and non-fiction.
I read 80% of my books in print, 19% in audio, and a measly 1% on my kindle.
My average days per book is 3.5.
My fiction vs non-fiction ratio is the same as last year at 88% fiction and 12% non-fiction.
Approximately 70% of my books were adult books while 10% was middle grade and 20% was YA.
My books by authors of color remained at 20% of my total reads.
My highest percentage of books receive a 4 star rating.
I had 84 5 star books this year.
I completed my list of books that I acquired in 2019.
I did not finish a total of 11 books.
My shortest book was Kill Joy by Holly Jackson and my longest was A Promised Land by Barack Obama.
These are the books that I labeled my top books each month:
January – The Measure by Nikki Erlick
February – The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel (funny because last February my favorite was called The Suite Spot!)
March – Maybe Next Time by Cesca Major
April – Only The Beautiful by Susan Meissner
May – The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry
June – The Museum of Ordinary People by Mike Gayle
July – Imogen, Obviously by Becky Albertalli
August – Tilly in Technicolor by Mazey Eddings
September – Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
October – Plan A by Deb Caletti
November – Didn’t See That Coming by Jesse Q Sutanto
December – The Last Love Note by Emma Grey (and honorable mention to Israel by Noa Tishby)
