As of tomorrow, I am the mom of a whole adult. I don’t know how this happened! Gabbie is my first baby and my only daughter and I’d rather do things with her than with any of my friends. I am going to miss her so much when she goes away to school this coming year! Like I did previously for Zachary and Simon’s birthdays, I’m updating my previous ABCs of Gabbie post, which was previously written for her 9th birthday.
April 2022 – 17th birthday
Age: 18 years old tomorrow.
Birthday: April 1, 2005. When I called my mom to tell her I was going to have the baby, she remembered to ask me if I was making an April Fools joke. I was not.
Chores: Gabbie’s main chore is to bring down her laundry and Zachary’s laundry twice a week and get it started washing. There are many times when she says she ran out of time to bring it down and I have to do it for her! She also (along with Simon) sets the table for Shabbat. She often has a very messy room but will clean it up when I tell her to.
Drink of choice: She still mainly drinks water. She likes an occasional Starbucks frap!
Education: Gabbie is in her final quarter of senior year. She has done so well in high school and has thrived since changing schools (from private to public). She applied to 8 colleges and was accepted to 6 of them. It’s decision time!
May 2022 – Last day of Junior year
Favorite color: I think her current favorite color is light blue. She used to say it was pink, purple, and light blue.
Grandparents: While not much of a telephone person, Gabbie gets along well with her four grandparents and enjoys seeing them when we can!
June 2022 – Grandma and Grandpa’s 80th birthday party with the cousins
Height: Gabbie is 5’6 or 5’7. That’s 4-5 inches taller than me for those keeping track!
June 2022 – We are still waiting for Zachary to catch up with Gabbie’s height!
Interests: Gabbie’s main interest continues to be dance! She is also a great photographer and loves math.
August 2022 – In her dance uniform taking photos for the yearbook
Job she’d like: Her main career ideas are to be a high school math teacher or a sports photographer.
Kids: Gabbie has a job where she works at the after school and vacation day program with young kids. She prefers the kindergartners. She also helps with a dance class with the youngest kids’ competition team!
Looks: She is the prettiest! When people say she looks like me I say I wish I looked like her. Somehow her hair is always perfectly curly. She wears glasses, which she says she likes most of the time.
August 2022 – Senior picture
Moods: I would say she is mostly happy but she can get annoyed or grumpy at times.
Nicknames: Gabbie is her nickname. It is short for Gabriella. Simon has all kinds of names he calls her and right now it’s Garbie.
Overnight: She is a good sleeper these days and a typical teen who stays up late and wants to sleep in.
Pet peeve: Her biggest pet peeve is the sound of chewing.
Quote she likes: She doesn’t have a quote or something she says often. I’m sure she could come up with a favorite Taylor Swift quote though!
Right or left-handed: Right.
Siblings: She and Simon have a special relationship. She gets along with Zachary fine too!
October 2022 – Football Senior Night
Time she’s at her best: Probably afternoon and evening.
Underwear: Yes.
Vegetables: As she got older she began eating more vegetables. Her favorite is probably still potatoes.
Wears: Gabbie has a nice fashion sense. She still wears leggings a lot but also wears jeans. She has so many sweatshirts and t-shirts!
December 2022 in cold Key Largo
Xrays: We were supposed to have her back x-rayed again to make sure her scoliosis was not an issue, but we never went!
Yummies: Gabbie’s favorite foods include bagels with butter, pasta, mac and cheese, pizza, ramen, Chinese food, etc.
Zoo favorites: We haven’t been to the zoo in awhile! She does love dogs though!
