It’s the end of the month, which means it’s time for a monthly wrap up post! October went by pretty quickly even though there wasn’t a ton going on. Here’s a look back at October!
Daily Life
This month the kids didn’t have quite as many days off from school, but Gabbie was off two Fridays (though she still had dance on those days) and Simon had a day off this week for conferences. Zachary was off too, but his class left for their camping trip even though it was a day off of school! He is on the trip now – it’s technically the 8th grade camping trip, but since last year it was canceled, the current 9th graders went with the current 8th graders!
Marigold is still hanging out with us, still looking for her permanent family. We took her to a few events this month hoping that she would find a home, but most people seem much more interested in the cute puppies than a hyper 3 year old!
Holidays and Birthdays
There were none this month! Like I said, not much happened in October!
School
The first quarter ended and the kids are mostly doing well. Zachary ended up with a lower grade than I prefer in English. We had conferences for the boys and their teachers seem happy with them, aside for Zachary not putting enough effort into most of his work! Gabbie was accepted into National Honor Society and we’ll be attending her initiation soon.
Activities
Gabbie was in the school homecoming parade and went to the dance with some friends. She also performed at a band marching festival. (She is on the dance team, which is also the color guard / drill team).
Gabbie also got her first pair of pointe shoes!
Simon finished up his soccer season with one game won.
Local Adventures
Gabbie went to the cider mill with the dance team and we didn’t want her to drive there because it’s pretty far, so I took her. We didn’t end up going as a family this year, which is the first year we haven’t gone since we lived here!
I took some pictures of pumpkins while we were there, just for fun.

Health / Fitness
Luckily my back has been fine all month and I’m back to running about 30 miles a month. I have been running 2.5 miles at a time and I kind of want to increase to 3, but for some reason that extra half a mile seems like a lot! The weather has been good for running – it went from shorts weather to hat weather pretty quickly though!
TV
I am up to date on 4 of the shows I like to watch – 9-1-1, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and A Million Little Things. I need to start The Good Doctor and stay caught up on the rest! I have also been watching football. The Chiefs are still not doing well, so sad.
Books
I have shared my first half of October reviews and will be sharing my favorites of the month this week.
