This month I’m participating in Monthly Musings with Holly and Patti. This month, the questions are about Spring Traditions and Activities.
1. Do you celebrate Easter or Passover? If so, what are your traditions?
We celebrate Passover, which starts this weekend! We have a special meal called a seder, which consists of reading from a book about the exodus from Egypt and eating certain foods in honor of the holiday, such as a vegetable to represent spring, a mix of apples and wine to represent the bricks the Jewish slaves built with, and matzah, to remember the unleavened bread that the Jewish people brought when they left Egypt. We have seders on the first and second nights of the holiday. We don’t eat bread or grain products besides matzah for the 8 days of the holiday. There are usually some activities going on during the week of the holiday, but not so much this year.
2. Favorite Spring Tradition?
I feel like I used to have more traditions for spring! One thing I like to do is a local farm tour. It’s usually the weekend of Mother’s Day. For the past few years, Gabbie has also had dance competitions on Mother’s Day, so I guess that is a tradition too!
3. What spring activities are you and your family involved in?
It’s dance competition season for sure! And in May we have the dance recital. Since Gabbie is dancing at school this year too, we have two shows to attend! My boys don’t really do sports (Simon played soccer this year but that’s in the fall) and my activities don’t change for spring time other than getting outside more!
4. What are you most looking forward to in spring?
I finally ordered a hammock! After it gets here and I put it together, I’m looking forward to lying in it.
5. Do you plant a garden / flowers?
I wish, but I’m not very good at that sort of thing.
6. Do you decorate your house for spring?
I decorate my entry way according to the season, and I already remembered to switch it out for spring!
7. Do you have a favorite spring meal?
I guess I should say the seder meal is my favorite? I don’t really have a lot of seasonal dishes that I specifically make for spring!
8. Does it feel like spring yet where you live?
It did…and then it got cold again. Now it’s warm-ish, and rainy. Soon it will probably just skip to summer. Although it’s still early – I’m not used to Passover being in March!
9. Will your spring look different this year due to Covid?
Not different than last year, but different than in the past where we could go on adventures every day of spring break. I do want to go to the zoo at some point, which we couldn’t do last year!
10. Have you dined outside yet this spring?
I’m not good at that. I always feel too lazy to take things outside! Dave has taken his lunch outside a few times. Maybe I’ll do that too when it stops being rainy!
How’s your spring plans looking?
