Simon went to camp two weeks ago and will be home tomorrow! This is his first time at sleepaway camp. He went away overnight this year with his class and with his youth group, but both of those were for 3-4 nights. After Zachary went to camp and didn’t have a great time, I didn’t think I’d send Simon away, but he is a different kid and he really wanted to go. The camp has a main session that is 4 weeks long, or you can stay for the full 6 weeks, or you can just go for the last 2 weeks, which is what Simon did. The last 2 weeks have a choice of focus where you can do basketball, cooking, or biking, and Simon wanted to do biking.
I took Simon to the airport and he flew to Chicago, where he got on the bus to camp. There are other kids at camp from here, but they were campers who stayed from the beginning. Simon was the only one flying for the last two weeks. He was also considered unaccompanied because he is not yet 12!
Here he is getting off the bus at camp! The camp has an app where they share the photos each day and it tags your camper – some of the time. I still had to scan it and find photos of Simon that he wasn’t tagged in!
Here is the biking group on one of their first outings.
On the second day he was there, my friend who works at the camp sent me a message that Simon’s FitBit band broke and he needed a new one. She also assured me that he was having fun! She sent me this picture of him and his good friend from his class watching the baseball game that they went to (minor league).
And the camp app had pictures of him there too.
He sent us a letter and I’m sure if I hadn’t provided him with this fill in the blank letter, he would have only told me that his watch broke and he was mad. I know his handwriting is hard to read, but it does say he liked biking, his counselors are nice, and the food is ok. The food that he said was his favorite is supposed to say quesadillas!
Next up, more biking!
A swim in the lake:
Some art projects:
Look, he got his new watch band, lol.
And what looked like a very fun time on the slip and slide! My friend sent pictures and he was on the app too.
And one more picture from biking:
It looks like he wears red a lot! I think they did the laundry because he wore the same clothes twice, but I assume the slip and slide clothes will come home dirty!
It looks like he’s having a fun time and if he wants to go again next year, maybe he’ll go for even longer!
