This month’s topic for the Let’s Look At link up was “the inside of your suitcase.” I missed the link up, but I thought it was a fun topic so I decided to write this post while I was packing for our recent trip! We pack differently based on how long our trip will be and whether we are checking baggage. For this trip we checked everything, so I took a big suitcase for myself and each of the kids took a smaller one. I do pack for the boys but I’ll just focus on what I pack for myself in this post!
I started by counting up how many days we’d be away and then adding one more. Then I set out outfits for each of those days. I just packed shorts and t-shirts mostly, but since there was the possibility of cooler evenings, I also brought a pair of jeans, a sweatshirt, and a long sleeved hoodie. I do have packing cubes and usually use them if I’m sharing a suitcase, but for whatever reason this time I decided not to use them.
Besides outfits, I also needed a bathing suit, pajamas, and of course underwear. I usually put my underwear in the pocket that is on the inside top of the suitcase so it’s easy to find. I also put some empty plastic bags in there to use for laundry or wet bathing suits or anything else. This time, everyone had their own laundry bag inside their own suitcase, which made things easier!
For my toiletries, I pack things in bags. I use ziplock bags for my shower necessities and my hair styling necessities. Then I have cosmetic bags for my makeup and for my everyday needs like my toothbrush and deodorant. I also took a bag with sunscreen and the kids’ goggles.
As far as carry on bags, if I’m not checking a bag, I have to take a small suitcase and one smaller bag, but this time I took my backpack as well as my regular bag. Inside I have my camera, my laptop, all of my chargers and cords, books, my water bottle (empty for security), sunglasses, etc. With two bags, I didn’t have to worry about one getting too heavy!
