I received a copy of Law and Disorder by Heather Graham from TLC Book Tours in exchange for my review. This is not the usual type of book that I have been reviewing recently and it was a much lighter read than the many World War 2 themed books I have read recently! A suspense, mystery, and romance all tied together in less than 300 pages? Sure!
“Desperate to escape her kidnappers, Kody Cameron can turn to only one man…and he’s holding a gun. Outnumbered and trapped in the deadly Everglades, she has little recourse, but something in this captor’s eyes makes her believe she can trust him. Does she dare to take the risk? Undercover agent Nick Connolly has met Kody before and knows she might very well blow his cover. Though determined to maintain his façade, he can’t let Kody die. He won’t. And his decision to change his own rules of law and order are about to make all hell break loose.”
The concept of the book was intriguing – Kody’s family has a loose connection with an old buried treasure and a gang of men wearing masks to resemble famous gangsters of the past try to force her to find it. One of the gangsters is an undercover FBI agent – who Kody has met in the past briefly. Nick and Kody share mutual friends and were attracted to each other when they met, but they had not gotten the chance to follow up on their attraction. I also liked the location of the story – south Florida and the Everglades. While the set up seemed to be a good one, the suspense could have been just a little more suspenseful and the romance could have been just a little more romantic. I would have liked the characters to be a bit more developed as well. Kody was a strong female character, but maybe some more background on her would have helped. I think the shortness of the book made it feel a little rushed. For a quick read though, it was not bad!
