I received a copy of Everything We Keep by Kerry Lonsdale from TLC Book Tours in exchange for my review. I’ve been loving the books I’ve gotten to review lately! I couldn’t put this one down. I actually read it on the beach and it was just the perfect setting for me to enjoy the story.
”Sous chef Aimee Tierney has the perfect recipe for the perfect life: marry her childhood sweetheart, raise a family, and buy out her parents’ restaurant. But when her fiancé, James Donato, vanishes in a boating accident, her well-baked future is swept out to sea. Instead of walking down the aisle on their wedding day, Aimee is at James’s funeral—a funeral that leaves her more unsettled than at peace. As Aimee struggles to reconstruct her life, she delves deeper into James’s disappearance. What she uncovers is an ocean of secrets that make her question everything about the life they built together. And just below the surface is a truth that may set Aimee free…or shatter her forever.”
This book is a mystery hidden in women’s fiction, a love story, and a family drama all in one. Interspersed with the present is the story of James and Aimee as young teens, following them as they grew up together. They were always meant to be together and Aimee’s family took care of James when his own family life proved difficult. When James disappears, Aimee feels that there is something more than an accident and the messages she gets from a psychic seem to confirm her feelings.
Aimee’s best friends are a source of comfort and help to her in her grieving process, encouraging her to go forward with her dream of opening her own restaurant, but the person who becomes the most invaluable to her is Ian, a photographer who she has an immediate connection with. Ian is the one who ultimately helps her to find out what really happened to James – and though this is the most interesting part of the book, I cannot write it here because it is a huge spoiler! There were a lot of twists in the story that I did not see coming and that kept me entertained throughout.
The biggest twist seemed to come in the book’s epilogue which leaves you wanting much much more! I don’t know if a sequel is planned, but it seems like there definitely could be one!
Dying to know what I’m talking about? Guess what? I have the opportunity to give away a copy of Everything We Keep! Just leave me a comment letting me know that you want one!
